"European mineral finishes applied without adaptation will fail. The substrate, the timing, and the sealing all change in the tropics."

How each finish performs here

Lime Paint — performs well

Lime Paint's breathability is actually an advantage in Singapore. It allows moisture within the wall substrate to release, rather than trapping it behind a vapour barrier. Condensation-related paint bubbling is a common failure mode of conventional paint — Lime Paint resists this. The application window needs to be respected (not too humid, good airflow), but the cured result is well-suited to tropical conditions.

⚠️

Lime Plaster — conditional

Lime Plaster requires careful curing time and relative humidity control during application. Singapore's consistently high ambient humidity can extend drying times significantly. We schedule applications with airflow planning and avoid high-humidity periods where possible. When applied correctly by experienced hands, the cured result is stable. It is not suitable for poorly ventilated or perpetually damp environments.

Microcement — well suited with proper spec

Microcement is a sealed system — once the topcoat sealer is applied and cured, it forms a barrier that performs well even in Singapore's wet zones. The critical variable is substrate preparation: concrete substrates must be stable, primed, and free of rising damp. We specify waterproofing separately for wet areas before the microcement system is applied. A correctly specified system can handle full bathroom environments.

⚠️

Liquid Metal — specialist application required

Metal-infused systems are reactive by nature — they are designed to oxidise and evolve. In Singapore's humidity, this evolution happens faster than in drier climates. This is not necessarily a problem, but it must be communicated and expected. The patina process can be guided and stabilised, but clients must understand: you are commissioning a living material, not a static finish. Not suitable for clients who want precise, permanent colour.

What to tell your contractor before applying anything

We assess before we apply.

Every project starts with a surface assessment — not a quote. We need to see what we're working with before we specify anything.
